TIPS: Get Fit
It's getting to the end of January, and it's becoming clear whether or not our New Years resolutions are here to stay. I'm sure many of us had 'get fit and be healthy' as a resolution, as we do every year, so I'm here to attempt to ensure you stick to it this time so it doesn't have to be on your list of resolutions for 2017.
1. Eat healthy - this is a whole lot easier when you plan meals, and maybe do meal prep on a weekend for the week ahead. It's so much easier to stick to healthy eating when your meals are already prepared.
2. So tied in with my first tip is this one. Throw away all the unhealthy food in your cupboard. It's a lot easier to resist chocolate biscuits when eating them means a trip to the shop rather than the kitchen. You'll be much less likely to eat unhealthy food if it isn't right in front of you.
3. Exercise - now when it comes to exercise you need to find something you enjoy. If you absolutely hate running then you definitely won't be motivated to stick at it. Maybe try swimming, or bike riding!
4. Combine cardio with strength training. Believe it or not we actually burn more calories strength training and you don't need to buy fancy equipment or sign up to the gym, body weight exercise is just fine!
5. Find a workout buddy. It's easier to stay motivated when you plan to exercise with someone else, and much less boring.
6. Stay hydrated. Two litres or more of water per day is essential.
7. Remember to rest. Take at least one rest day per week, maybe more when you first start off.
Hopefully these tips will help some of you out there, and if you're really struggling to stay motivated perhaps consider signing up for an event such as a 10k run, that way you're training for something, if you're feeling extra daring check out Tough Mudder which I will be doing for the second time this year!
